ABOUT
Get to Know Me

Hi, my name is Stacy Gareau. I am a registered Social Worker with more than 15 years of experience, graduating with my MSW from the University of Windsor in 2010. I started my career in child protective services, then worked as a case manager for adults with development disabilities, before starting my clinical counseling career in 2016. I never imagined when I was in school for Social Work that I would ever be a therapist. Now, I cannot imagine being anything else. My clinical social work career started working with children and their caregivers working with many Indigenous youth and their families, in Northern BC. I have also worked as a personal counsellor for college students from various cultures, backgrounds and stages in their life. Currently I provide counseling to all ages, individuals and families.
I love helping people from all backgrounds find their strength and start making new paths in their lives. Areas of interest are supporting people with anxiety, depression, interpersonal relationship challenges, and life transition stresses. I am especially passionate about supporting family members/caregivers who have a loved one with a mental illness. When a person has a mental illness, it impacts the whole family/those close to the individual. The supports in their life can be crucial to recovery, healing and day to day functioning. However, this is a difficult role to fill whether you are parent, grandparent, partner, sibling or another close relationship, as a support person you need help too, so you don’t burn out. I am honoured when I am able to provide that support to strengthen families.
I am trained in the following modalities of treatment to support your needs: Emotion Focused Family Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Indigenous Focused Oriented Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. I operate from a person centred, trauma informed lens, and enjoy continued professional development to stay informed and current in the field.

Outside of work I love spending time with friends, family, and new puppy especially in the outdoors. In the winter, I enjoy tobogganing, playing in the snow with my kids and cross country skiing. In the summer, I like to paddle board, hike and garden. When I can’t be outside I like playing cards, board games, or curling up with a book or watching a show.
